BCU Innovation Labs ("we", "us", "our") is a student-led, non-profit programme operating under Birmingham City University. This policy explains how we collect and use personal data in connection with the Innovation Labs website and programme activities, in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What information we collect

We may collect the following personal information:

  • Name and email address when you contact us or register for an event
  • Programme participation data (e.g. session attendance) if you are a Cohort participant
  • Basic technical data such as browser type and IP address via standard web server logs

How we use your information

We use personal data only for legitimate programme purposes, including:

  • Responding to enquiries sent via email
  • Managing event registration and ticket allocation
  • Communicating programme updates to participants
  • Improving the website and programme based on aggregate usage patterns

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Legal basis for processing

We process personal data on the basis of legitimate interests (running the programme and responding to enquiries) and, where applicable, your consent. Where you contact us or register for an event, you are consenting to the processing described above.

Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as it is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Contact enquiry data is typically retained for 12 months. Programme participation records may be retained for up to three years for administrative purposes.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing or request restriction
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk
